Mystery maker, 4.3" Staunton
Several of these sets have surfaced recently - this is a larger example of a set for which Guy Lyons has coined the phrase "shire horse knights". Can't disagree, they are rather chunky knights! Unfortunately both white knights are missing from the set, hence the stand in of the black knight. The former owner had tried his hand at fashioning some white knights out of a light weight wood. Suffice to say, I expect he had a new found respect for the carvers of even these rudimentary looking knights.
