Rare 18th century English pegged set
A remarkable little set, sold amongst a host of part bone travel sets - I had not seen an 18th century English pegged travel set before. Kings are a diminuitive 1.4" tall (1.63" including the peg).
The knights are of a very similar form to my other 18th century sets, and also have with manes on the left (which I understand is another indicator of 18th century knights). Jon Crumiller has suggested similar shaped knights could be indicative of John Calvert - whether that is the case here, I do not know, but I did find it interesting that the kings' crowns on this set give more than a passing nod to the larger wooden Calvert sets.
