Cavalier Tournament Edition c1967

A distinctive plastic chess set from the Pacific Game Comapny, North Hollywood, California.  This particular version is the Alabaster and Walnut finish (product number 1493), but they were also available in Walnut and Ivory (1492) and Ivory/Black (1491).  Kings just shy by a smidgen of 4", weighing 46.2g.  First made in 1967.

The knights are quite notable in this set - the moulds must have been carved by a very competent artist.  Interestingly, in my opinion there is a hint of the Herman Steiner knights, especially in the manes.  And, of course, Herman Steiner was famously a Hollywood resident.  So perhaps not a coincidence.
