Large rustic East Asian Chess set

A rather large East Asian carved wood chess set - the design felt familiar, but it was the rooks which sold this to me.  And the fact that many such sets are simply cast resin but this one is rustically carved out of wood.  Kings are over 5.7" tall.

I'm awaiting fellow collectors to let me know more about this set's origin (both country and approx date).  If I had to guess, I would say somewhere in china, circa 1950-60.
