Horse of Selene sculpture
Okay, okay - so not precisely a chess item, but the Elgin Marbles (as cared for by the British Museum) are purportedly the inspiration behind the knights in the original and early Jaques Staunton sets, and I thought this would make a pretty neat "guard" for the top of one of my cabinets. I've shown some comparisons with one of my Paulsen sets, though there may be closer matches.
Origin of the sculpture is unknown, but the British Musuem sell similar items which have been made in Greece (where else!). Head approx 25cm long by 20cm high.
