Jaques Staunton Library set c1856-59
A very early example of an "Anderssen" dropjaw set - the label dating from circa 1856-1859. Kings just over 2.8" tall.
I've had several dropjaw sets in my collection over the years, so have been fortunate to be able to compare how this style very subtley evolved. The knights in this early set (and in particular, the black ebony knights) are of the finest quality that I have seen. Sadly, I had to let go of a tournament dropjaw set in order to fund this purchase - happily, though, what this new Library set lacks in size it more than makes up for in character (and *that* label!).
