Jaques Staunton "Pre-Hartson" Small Club c1885

Another fine Small Club set from Jaques, this one dating from approximately 1885 and referred to as "Pre-Hartson" style.

Kings are 3.94" tall and nicely weighted.  Interestingly the knights are significantly larger than my Lasker small club (the Lasker style just pre-dating this set). I think this is possibly a later example of the style, as one of the knights shows elements of cross-over which I have observed in my tournament set dating from approximately 1890 which has two white knights of similar style, and two black knights of the "Pre-Hartson" style (see the comparison photos).
