Spalding simple chess set - WW2
A basic set made by Spalding in the UK during World War 2 - the registered design number dating from 1940-1943 (I haven't been able to narrow it down yet). The set is housed in its original drawstring canvas bag. Each piece stamped on the bottom - the white pieces with a different stamp to the black pieces. "Pat applied for" under the white pieces, so this would be an early version of the set - whether a patent was ever issued is another topic for research. If you can decipher what it says under the black pieces, please let me know!
