Large St George set with nicely carved knights c1880
A nicely turned and carved example of a St George set. Kings stand 4" tall, with a lot of presence. Sadly only two original knight heads; the third head is a replacement onto the correct base, and the set is also missing two pawns.
The knight carving has a familial resemblence to some staunton sets that I have seen, possibly Ayres-like.
For now this will keep company with several other incomplete sets in my "cupboard of disillusionment". If my carving career ever takes shape (literally!) then this will be high on my list of sets to complete, as it is a cracker of a St George!
