A poverty Jaques from 1942 (stamped box!), 2.0" kings
How the mighty have fallen. And in this case, through no fault of Jaques, but rather the destruction of their London factory in 1941 during the blitz. With all tools and materials destroyed, and with severe war time shortages, these poverty sets at least allowed people to carry on playing chess. The dating on the set is very interesting, as I had always assumed boxes of this form were from the 1950s into 1960s (and often have French looking sets, although the labels say "Made in England").
