A pretty rare example, I think.  Well, I've not seen anything quite like it (please let me know if you have!).

Japanned decoration (Europe's imitation of Chinese/Japanese lacquer) dates from the late 17th century through to Edwardian furniture.  I have seen decoration, very similar to this board, on mirror frames and furniture dated between the 17th century and 19th century.  On consulting with some collecting friends, the knowlegdable opinion was late 19th century.  I'd be very happy to hear from anyone who would date this differently.
