Animal set, Kathmandu, Nepal, 1950?

A nicely cast little set - according to Nicholas Lanier's Chess Museum set, this would have come from Nepal as a tourist/travel set.  Nicholas's set appears to have rabbits as pawns for both sides, whereas this set has the lighter side with rabbits and the darker side with monkeys.

Kings are depicted as reclining lions, queens as more stylised "chinese-like" smiling and standing lions, bishops as kangaroos (with joey in pouch), knights as full horses, and rooks as elephants.
